Women's Soccer Ties Albion

ANGOLA, Ind. – Overhand and windsor are ways to tie a tie, but the Trine University women's soccer team tied Albion College in a different fashion on Saturday afternoon. The Thunder and Britons played to a 1-1 tie on Shive Field. Gracie Pyle scored the goal for the Thunder (6-5-4, 3-2-1 MIAA), Albion is now 7-5-1 (2-2-1 MIAA).

Trine held decisive advantages in shots, shots on goal, and time of possession. Trine held the Britons without a shot on goal in the first half.

Trine's lone shot on goal came in the 45th minute from Erin Scully. Scully broke the defensive stalemate with a shot to the low right, forcing a save by Albion.

The defensive battle turned more physical in the second half with three cards issued and a bevy of fouls to go. Both teams were able to find scoring chances in the early portion but it was Trine striking first after Briton yellow card. Julia Benham played a free kick into the Briton's goal box that found Gracie Pyle. Pyle dribbled clear of a defender and sent her shot to the far corner of the goal, past the Albion keeper.

Trine appeared to have the win wrapped up when Albion broke through the defense with under two minutes to play. The Britons fired a shot from close range to level the score and force the draw.

Trine hosts Hope College next Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in the final home game of the season.
