Men's Hockey Blanks USNTDP U-18 Team

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – The Trine University men's hockey team took down the United States National Team Development Program Under-18 Team in an exhibition contest this evening. They shutout the home side by the score of 2-0.

Things looked difficult in the eighth minute of the first period when the Thunder were called for the first penalty of the game. Down a man they not only killed off the penalty but scored a goal of their own to take the 1-0 lead. Alexander Babich notched the tally with Sam Antenucci and Kyle DeMarco adding assists.

It was the long goal of the first, but Trine quickly added to their lead in the second period. This time Jack Cooper scored with Babich and Sean Henry adding the assists.

Neither team scored through the rest of the contest, with the Thunder killing off three penalties along the way. Peyton Grainer played the game in net and finished with 25 saves and the shutout.

The team returns to regular season and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play for their next contest. They will travel to face Lawrence University on Friday, January 16. That game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT.
