Gorloks and Grizzlies Fall to Thunder

FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Trine University women's tennis team picked up two more wins to remain undefeated on the season. They defeated their hosts from Franklin College 6-1, before sweeping Webster University in a neutral site match.

The Thunder took all three doubles matches to start the day with a 1-0 lead against the Grizzlies, but it wasn't an easy task. Emma Beehler and Addison Lockwood had the most convincing win with a 6-2 victory in the No. 3 match, while Elina Locane and Alexis Maloney came in with a 6-3 win at No. 1. The No. 2 match was a battle, needing a tiebreaker to come to a 7-6 (7-5) decision in favor of Emilee Bassett and Emily Hatseras.

The team followed up with five of the six singles matches to secure the victory, but three of the singles contests went to a super tiebreaker. Beehler was the lone member to fall in the super, coming up short in the No. 2 match with scores of 3-6, 7-6(7-2), 8-10. Maloney won the No. 4 match 2-6, 6-0, 10-3 and Hatseras took the No. 5 with scores of 3-6, 6-3, 11-9.

Locane in the No. 1 match and Bassett in the No. 3 match each won 6-2, 6-3. Cali Mickley finished off the day with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6.

The team dominated the match against the Gorloks from start to finish. They didn't drop a game during the doubles portion, with the same teams as the first match each winning 6-0.

Bassett at No. 3, Mickley at No. 5 and Avery Elsworth at No. 6 each swept their singles matches to secure the dual. Maloney needed just one more game to win 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 4 match. Beehler came in next with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 and Locane finished the day with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1.
