ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's tennis team won their home opener, defeating visiting Capital University 6-1.
The Thunder secured the first team point of the day by sweeping the doubles matches. Both the No. 2 team of Emilee Bassett and Emily Hatseras and the No. 3 team of Emma Beehler and Addison Lockwood secured their matches with the score of 6-1. Elina Locane and Alexis Maloney had a battle in the No. 1 match, with the score tied at four before the Trine pair took the final two points to secure the 6-4 victory.
The most convincing of the five singles victories came from Avery Elsworth, who competed at No. 6 due to an injury in the normal lineup. The freshman won in straight games with scores of 6-0, 6-0. Also winning her only match of the day was Cali Mickley who took the No. 5 match 6-2, 6-4.
Locane in the No. 1 match and Hatseras in the No. 4 match both won with scores of 6-1, 6-4 to secure the day for the team. Maloney rounded out the score with a 6-2, 7-5 victory in the No. 3 match.
The Thunder remain an undefeated 4-0 after the victory. They will host another match on Friday, September 12. Taylor (Ind.) University is scheduled to come to town for a 3 p.m. dual.
