ANGOLA, Ind. – Nationally-ranked Ohio Northern University was too much for the Trine University men's soccer team, leaving Weaver Field with a 5-0 victory, despite a tough start by the home team.
The Thunder played an even first 24 minutes with the 12th-ranked Polar Bears. The teams shared mostly even possession through the stretch and Dillon Lambert made a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless.
The dam broke in the 25th minute when Ohio Northern capitalized on a defensive mistake by Trine and then doubled up a few minutes later to take a 2-0 lead. They added a third goal in the waning seconds of the first half to build the 3-0 lead. Two more goals in the second half secured the lopsided 5-0 victory.
The Thunder had four shots in the contest with two coming against the opposing keeper. Dalton Douglas and Britton Sala came up with the quality shots.
Trine falls to 0-4-1 following the loss. They will next host Defiance College on Wednesday, September 17. That contest will be under the lights of Zollner Stadium with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
