AUSTIN, Texas – The Trine University Softball team saw two student athletes named Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators this afternoon. Alexis Michon was named to the first team as a pitcher and Emma Lee was named to the second team as an outfielder. To be selected to the Academic All-America team, student athletes must have a GPA of 3.50 or higher while demonstrating exceptional achievement on the diamond and in the classroom.

Michon, a senior Elementary Education major from Montville, Conn. was the driving force behind the Thunder's run to a second national championship in three seasons. Michon allowed just two earned runs in four starts at the tournament's final site. She was named the NCAA Tournament's Most Outstanding Player and was selected as a first team All-American. She led the nation in strikeouts to walk ratio (29.86) and WHIP (0.53), was second with just 3.45 hits allowed per game and 0.29 walks per game, and third with a 0.75 ERA. Michon is the program's all-time leader in saves with nine. Her 25 wins are the most in a single season in program history. Michon added the fourth perfect game in program history on March 19th and is tied for the program record with three individual no hitters. The third came just 10 days after her perfect game. This marks the second consecutive year Michon has been named Academic All-American.

Lee, a junior Elementary Education major from Cottage Grove, Wis. keyed the Thunder's game two victory over Virginia Wesleyan with a three-run home run in the sixth inning to clinch the program's second national title in three years. Lee was fourth on the team with 55 hits and fifth in batting average, hitting .369 with an on base percentage of .445. On the base paths Lee was unstoppable, successfully stealing 33 bases on as many tries to lead the nation in stolen base percentage. She ranked second among those who were never caught. Lee garnered second team All-Region VII and All-MIAA honors and was named Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week on April 29th.
