ALBION, Mich. – The Trine University softball team picked up a win in the first game of their doubleheader against Albion College, with the other game postponed to tomorrow, Monday, May 5 due to inclement weather.
Neither team scored through the first two innings of the game today. It was the Thunder that finally broke the tie in the top of the third inning.
Emma Lee reached on a fielder's choice and then came the rest of the way to home plate on a double by
Tyra Marcum.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Trine continued to build on their lead in the fifth, adding three runs.
Ainsley Phillips brought in the first with an RBI error before Marcum scored two more with a two-run homer.
Keelin Wheaton and
Whitney Duell each had RBI-singles in the sixth and
Kennedy Huckeby added another in the seventh to build the final lead of 7-0.
Alexis Michon once again had a spectacular showing in the circle, taking a perfect game into the fifth inning. She ultimately finished the game allowing just two hits while striking out 12, on the way to her 16
th win of the season.
The clouds opened after the completion of game one and the second half of the doubleheader was postponed until tomorrow, Monday, May 5 at 12 p.m. The Thunder end today 31-4 overall and 15-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play.
