ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University Men's Volleyball team fell to Wittenberg University in a 3-1 decision inside Hershey Hall on Saturday afternoon. Kevin Boncaro led with 13 kills and Trine posted 6 aces and 9 blocks in the loss. The Thunder are now 15-8 (5-3 MCVL) and will be the #4 seed in next week's MCVL Tournament. Wittenberg finishes 20-10 (7-1 MCVL) and will be either the 1, 2, or 3 seed depending on other results around the league today.
 
Wittenberg took the match 25-14, 27-25, 18-25, and 25-14.
 
Wittenberg hit .556 in the first set and used runs of 5-1 and 8-2 to pull away for a set one win.
 
Set two was much closer with 14 ties and 3 lead changes. Xander Ikusz dished out 10 assists. Karl Both, Carter Steffgen, and Boncaro each had aces with Johnson-Kuhao Ho'okano-Pelekai and Ethan McLenon join Both for blocks. A 5-2 run gave Trine a 24-21 lead but the Tigers rallied back for the win.
 
Wittenberg grabbed a 6-2 lead early in set three and looked set to run away with a sweep. Trine rallied back to a 12-11 deficit before a 9-1 run gave them a commanding 20-15 advantage. McLenon, Ryan McDonald and Boncaro had kills to set the tone.
 
Wittenberg quickly led 11-2 in the fourth set, Trine cut it to 16-10 but would get no closer.
 
Trine will head to the MCVL Tournament next weekend where they will take on the tournament host and #1 seed that is yet to be determined. More information will be available later.
