Nationally Ranked Softball Clobbers Comets

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University softball team swept The University of Olivet in today's home Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader. The two wins are the largest victories by the Thunder this season and the second game's 22-0 victory is the largest since April 29, 2023.

The first game featured a steady offensive attack by Trine, who scored their 15 runs spread over 13 different plays. Seven different members of the team tallied RBIs in the game, with Ainsley Phillips leading the way with four, three of which came on a double in the fourth inning. Emma Lee and Keelin Wheaton each finished second on the team with three RBIs each. Lee, Wheaton and Whitney Duell were perfect at the plate. Duell led the team with three stolen bases while Lee finished with a pair.

In the circle, Alexis Michon picked up her 14th win of the season with three perfect innings of work with seven strikeouts. Lauren Clausen finished out the contest with two innings allowing just one hit while striking out three.

The Thunder made won the second game of the day 22-0, posting crooked numbers in the first, third and fourth innings along the way. The team emptied the dugout during the game and had 11 different members bring in a run. Lee and Emma Beyer led the way, each plating four runs. Debbie Hill was the only other member of the team to bring in multiple with two RBIs. Beyer finished the game three-for-three with an inside the park home run.

Hill picked up the win during the game posting three perfect innings of work including six strikeouts. Michaela Doiron pitched the fourth inning allowing two hits while striking out two. Alex Rodriguez finished off the game while allowing just one hit and striking out one.

Trine improves to 28-4 overall and 12-0 in MIAA play following the sweep. The team will be able to clinch the MIAA regular season title with one more win and secure it out right with two. They will look to do so at home when they host Hope College on Saturday, April 26. The first of the two games is scheduled for 1 p.m.
