Thunder Tame Bulldogs

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Trine University men's tennis team picked up a convincing victory over their hosts from Adrian College. The final score was 6-1 in favor of the Thunder.

Trine won two of the three doubles matches to capture the first team point of the day. Drew Hackney and Andrew Spirrison in the No. 1 match along with Nicholas Jen and Caleb Morris in the No. 3 match both came up with 6-4 victories.

The bottom three singles matches all went to the Thunder in two sets. Morris won at No. 4 with scores of 6-1, 7-5 with Emmett Wirth coming in at No. 5 with scores of 6-4, 6-3. Jen had the quickest of the singles wins with a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the No. 6 match.

Elijah Schilthuis needed an extra set but came up with a win in the No. 3 match, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. Hackney looked destined for a third set as well with a big lead in the second set, but his opponent retired to hand him the team point.

The Thunder improve to 10-9 overall and 4-2 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play. They will finish the regular portion of the season with when they host Kalamazoo College on Wednesday, April 23. That match is set to start at 4 p.m.
