ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's tennis team swept visiting Alma College to secure their ninth win of the season.
The Thunder took all three of the doubles matches to secure the first team point of the day. Both
Elijah Schilthuis and
Emmett Wirth in the No. 2 match and
Nicholas Jen and
Caleb Morris in the No. 3 match won their contests 6-1.
Drew Hackney and
Andrew Spirrison needed a few more points but won the No. 1 match 6-3.
Jen posted the best win of the singles portion, taking the No. 6 match with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Both Hackney at No. 1 and Schilthuis at No. 3 won their matches 6-0, 6-2. Emmett came in next with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 5 match and Spirrison followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2.
Morris in the No. 4 match was the final contest of the day, ending in a super-tiebreaker win for the senior. He finished with scores of 6-1, 3-6, 14-12.
Trine improves to 9-9 overall and 3-2 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play. They will next take the courts when they travel to face Adrian College on Saturday, April 19. That match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
