ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's team picked up another home victory despite cold and blustery weather making play difficult. The Thunder won 7-0 over The University of Olivet.
All three doubles matches went to the home team to earn the first dual point of the day. Both the No. 1 pair of Drew Hackney and Andrew Spirrison and the No. 3 pair of Nicholas Jen and Caleb Morris won with the score of 6-2. The win caused some havoc in the No. 2 match, but Elijah Schilthuis and Emmett Wirth came up with a 6-4 win.
Emmett figured out the conditions during singles sweeping the No. 5 singles match, 6-0, 6-0. Both Schilthuis at No. 3 and Jen at No. 6 needed just one more point to win with scores of 6-0, 6-1. Spirrison won comfortably at No. 2 with scores of 6-2, 6-1 and Morris took the No. 4 match 6-2, 6-2.
Hackney made quick work of the first set but then found himself only up on at 3-2 in the second. He pulled away from there to win 6-1, 6-3.
Trine improves to 8-7 overall and 2-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play. They are next set to hit the courts when they travel to face Hope College on Saturday, April 5. That match is set to start at 3 p.m.
