#9 Softball Snaps Back with Win Over Gators

ORLANDO, Fla.—The Trine University softball team split a pair of games in Florida today. They fell in early morning to Moravian University before defeating Allegheny College in the early afternoon.

The Greyhounds had the Thunder's number and came away with a 16-2 victory in just six innings. Moravian started the scoring in the second plating four runs and then doubled their lead to eight in the fourth.

Debbie Hill cut into that lead in the bottom of the fourth, plating a pair of runs with a homerun over the centerfield fence. A disastrous sixth inning ended with the Greyhounds plating eight runs to build their final 16-2 lead, which went final after a quick bottom of the frame.

Game two saw Hill make a second start in the circle, which much better results. She went three innings allowing no runs on three hits while striking out three. Her work sent the game to the fourth scoreless.

In the second time through the lineup the Thunder bats woke up. Angelena Perry brought in the first run of the day with a single through the right side and in the next at-bat Whitney Duell forced an error that scored another run.

Lauren Clausen relieved Hill at the rubber in the fourth, allowing a homer to her first faced batter, but then settling in for the rest of the contest. She finished with four innings of work, allowing just the one run on six hits while earning the third win of her season.

Hill added run support for her relief in the fifth and seventh innings, adding two more homeruns to her tally for the day and three RBIs. Emma Lee picked up two RBIs of her own in the sixth inning with a triple to right field. Tyra Marcum rounded out the scoring with a sacrifice fly just behind Lee's triple.

Trine finishes the day 6-4 overall. Tomorrow, Friday, March 7 the team will take the field twice more, both in the afternoon. They open the day at 1:45 p.m. when they face Transylvania University, then at 4:30 p.m. they are set to matchup with Lebanon Valley College.
