ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University football team has unveiled its schedule for the upcoming 2025 season.
The Thunder will open the season on the road, looking to even the series against Christopher Newport University. Last season, in the first meeting between the two programs, the Captains came out on top inside Zollner Stadium. Last season, the team just missed out on postseason play finishing 7-3 overall and 5-1 in their conference. The season opening kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 6.
Trine finishes out the non-conference portion of their season by hosting a pair of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) teams. The home opener is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 13 against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The fifth-straight meeting between the engineering schools will break the current 2-2 tie in wins. So far the road team has dominated the series, but Trine won the latest edition of the game with an impressive 21 point comeback.
The Thunder host Franklin College on Saturday, September 20 for their final non-conference game, kicking off at 1 p.m. The Grizzlies own the series record with five wins to Trine's three, but the last two have gone in favor of the good side. The two team's last played in 2023 with the Thunder winning 58-43.
From there, Trine faces seven Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) matchups, four coming on the road and three at home. They will travel to face Albion College on September 27, The University of Olivet on October 18, Calvin University on October 25 and Adrian College on November 8.
Last season those games, which were all at home, ended with a 3-1 record in favor of the Thunder. The lone loss came in the conference opener against the Britons. The biggest win came in the 2024 edition of the Border Brawl with Trine taking down the Bulldogs 52-32, despite trailing by three at the half. The Thunder scored 35 points in the other two matchups coming up with a 35-28 win against the Comets and a 35-30 win against the first year Knights.
Trine is set to host Hope College on October 4, Alma College on November 1 and Kalamazoo College on November 15. Last season the team went 1-2 against the three teams, all on the road. The ultimate conference champions from Holland, Mich. and the one-time nationally-ranked Scots were both too much for the Thunder squad. Trine ended the season with a 37-14 win against the Hornets, keeping them above five hundred with a 6-4 overall record.
The Flying Dutch will serve as the opponents for the 2025 Homecoming celebration, with the game scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff. Senior day will come against Kalamazoo also with a 1 p.m. kickoff.
