ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's tennis team opened the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) portion of their season with a 7-0 sweep of visiting Albion College.
The Thunder took all three doubles matches to secure the first team point of the day. Neither the No. 1 team of Elina Locane and Emma Beehler or the No. 2 team of Emilee Bassett and Alexis Maloney dropped a point, winning their matches 6-0. Lizzie Welker and Emily Hatseras came in just a bit later, winning 6-1 in the No. 3 match.
The dominance continued in the singles portion of the contest. Bassett finished her day perfect taking the No. 3 match 6-0, 6-0 while her doubles partner Maloney was just one point shy winning the No. 4 match 6-1, 6-0. Both Locane at No. 1 and Welker at No. 6 won 6-1, 6-1 with Beehler taking the No. 2 match 6-0, 6-2. In the closest of the matches, Hatseras won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5.
Trine improves to 10-1 overall following the win. They will continue their season by traveling to face Saint Mary's College on Saturday, March 29. That dual is set to start at 1 p.m.
