ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University Baseball team ended the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 10-1 loss to Ohio Northern University on Tuesday afternoon.
Preston Henschen launched solo homer to left center field in the seventh to provide the run for Trine. Trine is now 6-11 and the Polar Bears improve to 14-5.
After a rocky first inning,
Evan Shoppell settled in and allowed just one hit and struck out three over the next two innings to keep Trine within striking distance, trailing 3-0. A Polar Bear grand slam in the seventh gave the visitors a 7-0 lead. Henschen sent his long ball over the fence in seventh, every run scored in the game came via a home run. Northern added a two-run homer and solo shot in the ninth to complete their team home run cycle.
Cole Schmidthuber added a pair of doubles for the Thunder.
Trine opens MIAA play this weekend with a single game at Hope on Friday before hosting the Dutch on Saturday in a doubleheader.
