Men's Volleyball Drops Tight 3-2 Decision to Baldwin Wallace

BEREA, Ohio – The Trine University Men's Volleyball team dropped a tight 3-2 decision to Baldwin Wallace on Friday night at Ursprung Gymnasium. Kevin Boncaro led Trine with 16 kills and Ryan McDonald notched 30 assists. Trine is now 12-6 (2-1 MCVL) while the Yellow Jackets are 16-9 (4-1 MCVL).
 
Baldwin Wallace took the match in five sets, 25-23, 17-25, 25-20, 12-25, 9-15. Trine blocked 11 BW attack attempts and had three aces.
 
The Friday night in Berea began with a 25-23 decision in favor of the visitors. Trine led wire to wire. Boncaro had five kills and an ace to lead the way. Trine blocked four Yellow Jacket attacks in the first frame Karl Both and Ethan McLenon each had a solo and assist while McDonald and Boncaro had the other assists.
 
Set two went to the Jackets, Trine hung around for most of the set but four aces would give the hosts a cushion to claim set two.
 
Set three was tight early on, Trine took advantage of some BW errors to spark a 6-1 run highlighted by blocks from McDonald, Boncaro, and McLenon. The hosts would come within 23-20 but Boncaro and Johnson-Kuhao Ho'okano-Pelekai slammed the door with consecutive kills.
 
BW controlled set four early and often to force a decisive fifth frame. The teams traded blows to start the set, the first eight points were scored via kill in 5-3 favor of the hosts. Trine quickly tied things at five. BW answered with six straight to take a commanding 11-5, the Thunder did not back down scoring four of the next six. BW claimed the final two points for the win.
 
Trine will make the short trip from Berea to Alliance, Ohio for a date with the Purple Raiders of Mount Union tomorrow afternoon.
