Ratcliffe Gets Win #1, Baseball Sweeps Pitt-Greensburg

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Trine University Baseball team took both games of a Sunday afternoon twin bill against Pitt-Greensburg today. The Thunder took game one 4-2 and game two 11-5. Dane DuBois led the Thunder offense with 3 hits and a home run. Trine is now 2-2, Pitt-Greensburg is now 0-6.
 
Drew Basso picked up the win in game one, striking out two in 1.2 innings of work. Evan Shoppell closed out the win and earned the save. The Bobcats stuck first in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Trine got the offense going in the bottom of the fifth, DuBois reached first on a single. The Luke Burford got on with a fielder's choice to the short stop, a single from Will Taczak put Burford in scoring position. Joel Walton notched an RBI single in the next at bat to tie the game. Spencer Rodriquez walked to load the bases, a passed ball allowed Taczak to score and give Trine a 2-1 lead. Trine scored two more in the bottom of the sixth, a DuBois RBI single scored Preston Henschen, DuBois got into scoring position with a steal of second base. Burford doubled to right field and DuBois was able to score the final run. Shoppell got out of a two on, none out jam in the top of the seventh to secure Coach Brett Ratcliffe's first win as skipper.
 
Noah Brettin picked up the win in game two, going five innings and striking out three and allowing just two earned runs. Trine struck first in the second with an unearned run. The third saw Trine plate six runs and take control. Brody Bond singled and scored Josh Peremba, then Cole Temple added a single that scored Joel Walton. Bond scored from third when a Temple steal forced an errant throw from the Bobcat's catcher. Temple scored on a Kyle Martin single. Nathan Gilmet and Martin each scored to close out the inning with a 7-0 lead. A Dubois homer scored three more in the fourth. A Bobcat homer in the fifth close the lead to 10-3. Aidan Dickinson scored on a Burford single to provide the final run.
 
Trine takes on John Carroll tomorrow in a double header.
