ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's tennis team bounced back from a three-game losing streak by sweeping Manchester University with a score of 7-0.
The Thunder won all three doubles matches for the first team point of the day. Both
Caleb Morris and
Nicholas Jen at No. 3 and
Elijah Schilthuis and
Emmett Wirth at No. 2 won in straight points, 6-0. In the No. 1 match,
Drew Hackney and
Andrew Spirrison won 6-1.
Hackney had the quickest of the singles matches at No. 1, winning in straight points. Both Spirrison at No. 2 and
Leyton Byler at No. 6 needed just two more points to record wins. Spirrison won 6-2, 6-0 and Byler won 6-1, 6-1. Schilthuis won the No. 3 match 6-3, 6-0 and Wirth took the No. 4 match 6-1, 6-3.
Jen was the final match to finish, needing a super tiebreaker to win the No. 5 match. He finished with scores of 6-1, 4-6, 10-4.
The Thunder improve to 6-6 after the win. They will continue their season when they travel to face the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Sunday, March 16. The dual is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
