ANGOLA, Ind. – The #11 Trine University Women's Basketball team fell in Saturday night's MIAA Championship game 70-57 to Calvin.
Erin Sherwood led a ferocious third quarter comeback, but the Thunder ultimately fell as Calvin made a plethora of timely baskets to stifle the Thunder's rally.

Sherwood posted a 21-point 13-rebound double-double and
Sidney Wagner scored 17 more.

Calvin used a 22-12 second quarter advantage to take a 36-22 halftime lead. Trine trailed 42-28 early in the third quarter but battled back to a 51-48 deficit but a Calvin buzzer beater stretched the lead to six heading into the fourth quarter. Sherwood scored the first nine points of the third quarter and had 11 total.
Sierra Hinds had a triple and Wagner sliced through the Knight defense for a layup.

Katie Tate cut the Calvin lead to four, but Trine would come no closer. A Calvin three stretched it to nine and another with 1:45 made it a nine point lead again, despite a Trine trey from
Allison Capouch.

The loss ends Trine's 16 game win streak and marks the first defeat by an MIAA opponent this season. This is the Thunder's first home loss of the season; Trine has tied the single season record for home wins and can break it if they are selected as a host for the NCAA Tournament beginning next weekend. The Thunder are in line to earn an at-large bid and will learn their seed and first round location on Monday at 2:30 p.m. More information will be provided later.
