HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Trine University Men's Volleyball team fell to nationally ranked Southern Virginia on Friday night. Trine falls to 8-5 while the Knights stay unbeaten at 11-0.
Kevin Boncaro and
Johnson-Kuhao Ho'okano-Pelekai led the Thunder with 4 kills each and
Ryan McDonald added 11 assists and an ace.
SVU took the match in straight sets 25-14, 25-15, 25-11. The Thunder kept things close early in set one, a kill from
Karl Both pulled the Thunder within 2 at 7-5. SVU scored 14 of the next 16 to control the set.
Trine again started well in set two, Ho'okano-Pelekai,
Carter Steffgen, and Both all had kills to give Trine a 7-5 advantage. SVU again proved to be too much, using a 10-1 run to halt the Thunder momentum.
Boncaro had two kills in the final set as the Knights kept the Thunder at bay from the start.
Trine wraps up the EMU Tournament tomorrow with matches against Rutgers-Newark and Eastern Mennonite.
