FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has named
Julia Benham their Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. This is Benham's first MIAA Athlete of the Week award.
Benham scored a pair of goals last week. The first came in the regular season finale against The University of Olivet. The goal came with assistance from
Kaeli Sterling and the top woodwork of the Comet's goal. Benham fired her shot from just outside the 18-yard box to the top of the goal. The ball caught the underside of the cross bar and banked in for Trine's fifth goal of the night. Benham the scored the equalizer in Trine's MIAA Tournament first round game against Adrian. The goal tied the game in the 70
th minute and ultimately forced overtime. After two scoreless overtime periods the game went to penalties. Benham was up for Trine in the fifth round with a chance to win it. Benham buried her shot in the top left corner and sent Trine through to the semifinals.
The Thunder are off to Holland, Mich. to do battle with Hope College tomorrow evening for a spot in the MIAA Championship Game.
