ANDERSON, Ind. –
Danny Flood scored a career high 32 points and rained in 10 three pointers but the Trine University men's basketball team ultimately came up short in a high scoring 95-81 loss to Anderson University on Wednesday afternoon. Flood's 10 triples are tied for second most in a single game and his 16 attempts are also second most.
Flood did all his damage from the floor from beyond the arc, taking all 16 of his shots from downtown, he added a pair of free throws to reach his final tally of 32.
Logan McKenzie added 11 points and eight rebounds and
Nate Tucker scored in double figures with 10.
The teams combined to make 31 three pointers on 75 attempts with both teams shooting better than 40% on the longball. The game featured 14 ties and 18 lead changes. Flood started early, cashing in on his first three just over a minute into the game, his second gave Trine a 10-5 lead. Tucker scored six of the next eight for Trine giving Trine an 18-17 lead. Anderson responded with an 11-3 run. Flood pulled Trine within four with his third triple and both of his free throws. Trine scored their final 12 points of the half from beyond the arc.
Elias Lewis had the first while Flood added a pair and
Jayden Bradshaw hit one with 26 seconds left and Trine trailed by four at the break.
Flood went to work quickly in the second half, knocking in number six just 24 seconds in. McKenzie score the next five.
Cade Brenner tied the game at 53 with a long ball via
Drew Panning. Flood would give Trine the lead with his seventh just over four minutes into the half. Cold shooting would plaque the Thunder from there and Anderson used a 9-0 run to take a 66-58 lead they would not relinquish. Flood pulled Trine within two with another long ball. Anderson refused to let Trine complete the rally using a 14-6 run over nine minutes of game time to seal Trine's fate. Flood made a pair of triples in the final minute to complete his impressive performance.
Trine hosts Heidelberg on December 3
