Women's Basketball Dominates Carlow (Pa.)

CINCINNATI – The #17 Trine University women's basketball team dominated all facets of their game this afternoon against Carlow (Pa.) University. The Thunder posted a dominant 112-21 win over the Celtics on day two of the Mount St. Joseph Invite at the Harrington Center. Trine set the school record for margin of victory (91 points) while allowing the second fewest points in a game and scoring the fourth most.
 
Trine set a flurry of other program marks in the win. They grabbed 64 rebounds, dished out 28 assists, and made 42 field goals. Those marks rank second or tied for second in a single game. The Thunder attempted 82 field goals, tied for the eighth most and grabbed 19 steals, tied for 14th most.
 
Individually, the performances were just as great. Erin Sherwood tallied a career-high 22 points on 10-11 shooting, a 90.9% conversion rate which is sixth best for a single game. Olivia Marks was perfect on the afternoon making all five of her field goals and both free throws while pulling in seven rebounds and two steals. Callie Nichols did a little of everything with seven points, five steals, five assists, and four rebounds. Madison Wagner, Ella Mohamed, and Emma Payton all scored in double figures and achieved career highs for points.
 
Trine scored the games first six points before allowing the Celtics on the board. They responded by scoring the next 27 points and built a 35-4 lead after one. The first six points of the second quarter all went to Trine via turnover with Nichols knocking in a three and Marks and Sherwood scoring in the paint. The Thunder continued to dominate the paint en route to a 60-8 halftime lead. Trine scored 58 points in the paint on the afternoon.
 
 
The second half was no different as Trine continued to dominate on the glass and in the paint. They limited the Celtics to just five made field goals on the game and 13 points in the second half. Elliana Foley scored her first career points and all 18 players dressed for Trine saw action.
 
Trine heads to Ohio Northern next Saturday for a matchup with the Polar Bears at 2:00 p.m.
