Thunder Rattle Bulldogs Cage

ANGOLA, Ind. – Emmaline Leatherman led the Trine University women's volleyball team to a four set victory over the Adrian College Bulldogs in MIAA action. Leatherman pounded 15 kills on .375 hitting and added four blocks. Trine improves to 7-12 (2-1 MIAA) in their defense of Hershey Hall in the Border Brawl. The Thunder drop the Bulldogs to 1-16 (0-4 MIAA).
 
Trine took the match 25-13, 20-25, 26-24, 25-17. Julia Maggio and Elli Baker joined Leatherman with double digit kills. Anna Zellers had a double-double with 25 assists and 22 digs.
 
Trine dominated set one taking a 6-2 lead and never looking back. Baker and Maggio each had four kills. Trine added three service aces while hitting .333 in the dominant victory.
 
Adrian took a 7-1 lead in set two, Trine returned the favor and leveled the score at 8. Kills from Maggio, Leatherman, and Davanee Gehl gave Trine a 17-15 lead. Adrian caught fire and took the set 25-20.
 
The Thunder responded well to open set three, taking a commanding 15-6 lead. Leatherman had four kills and Maggio had three to help Trine open the lead. A 10-0 run by the Bulldogs kept things interesting. Leatherman punched her final three kills of the set consecutively to give Trine the 26-24 victory.
 
Maggio scored two of Trine's first three points of set four via ace. Adrian kept things close before Trine pulled away with a 4-0 run backed by two kills from Baker. She added two more to help Trine pull away to a 20-13 lead. Leatherman punctuated her night with the final kill to send the Bulldogs home empty handed.
 
Trine travels to Kalamazoo on Saturday as they continue MIAA play.
