ADRIAN, Mich. –
Drew Moore unleashed 23 first half points, then the Thunder used a 45-26 second half advantage and the #3 Trine University Men's Basketball team buried Adrian 83-55 inside the Merillat Center. Trine moves to 15-1 (5-0 MIAA) while Adrian drops to 4-12 (2-3 MIAA).
Â
Moore wasted no time getting started, nailing back-to-back-to-back triples and adding a two point jumper for good measure and scored 11 of Trine's first 13.
Aidan Smylie scored the first bucket, then he would dish out assists to
Nate Tucker and Moore who buried triples. It was Moore's fourth long ball in the first eight minutes. Smylie then grabbed a steal and took it coast to coast, on the ensuing possession Moore picked up a loose ball and found Smylie for another transition basket. The Thunder led 23-12. Moore then scored the last eight points of the half for Trine, who took a 38-29 lead to the locker room.
Â
Moore scored the first four of the second half before the Bulldogs found an answer for the back-to-back MIAA Player of the Week. What Adrian didn't have an answer for was
Nate Tucker and
Grant Pahl. The duo combined for 23, with 16 coming in the second half.
Emmanuel Megnanglo scored all six of his points in the second frame and added seven of his eight rebounds. Pahl hit a pair of triples, while Tucker did his damage from the paint scoring six of his eight near the basket. Moore dished out three assists on consecutive possessions, first finding Megnanglo for a slam, then helping Tucker add four more points in the paint.
Cade Brenner came off the bench to score six points late and
Cameron Awls knocked in four free throws.
Â
Trine returns to the MTI Center for an important MIAA matchup with the Hope Flying Dutch on Saturday. That game is the second game of a double header with the women's team, who play Albion. The men will start approximately 30 minutes after the women's game finishes.
