Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Thunder Swept at Home Quad

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches in the second day of their own quad match. They fell to Lancaster Bible College in a highly contested 3-2 match before ending the day with a non-conference loss to Mount St. Joseph.

In the opening match of the day the Thunder faced off with the Chargers. Lancaster Bible built an early lead before Ryan McDonald served the team back to a 9-9 tie. The Chargers pulled ahead again, but the home team kept it close before falling 25-21 in the set. Trine led from nearly start to finish in the second, taking the game 25-22. The third needed extra points to come to a decision going in favor of the visitors 27-25. Trine forced a fifth set with a convincing 25-18 victory, where they scored the last six points, most on the serve of Jaren Reyes. The teams were tied at seven in the final set, but Lancaster Bible pulled away after switching sides, winning 15-9.

Kevin Boncaro led the way with 20 kills for the Thunder while also finishing third with ten digs. Bryan Maida led the team with 19 digs and McDonald finished with 15. McDonald led the team with 37 assists and was also second in blocks. Seth McDonald led the team with four solo blocks and three assists.

After a lengthy break, the Thunder faced a familiar foe in the Lions in a non-conference game. It seemed at first that the break had hampered the home team as they came out flat to start, but it turned out it just wasn't Trine's day. They lost the first set 25-22 before dropping the second 25-10 and the third 25-19.

Boncaro led the team with 11 more kills and seven assists while Ryan McDonald finished with 19 assists.

The Thunder will face Indiana Tech in an exhibition on Thursday, January 16 before heading to the Lakeland Tri-Match for a pair of contests on Friday, January 24. Their first match is scheduled for 6 p.m. against Maranatha Baptist before taking on their hosts from Lakeland at 8 p.m.
