NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Trine University men's tennis team opened the season in convincing fashion, winning 7-0 over their hosts from Manchester University.
The Thunder took the doubles point in the event with three wins. The most convincing came in the No. 3 match where
Nicholas Jen and
Caleb Morris won in straight games, 6-0.
Sammy Yin and
Andrew Spirrison finished second with a 6-1 win in the No. 1 match. The new faces of
Drew Hackney and
Emmett Wirth took the No. 2 match 6-3 to finish the sweep.
Yin followed up with a sweep in the singles portion of the contest, he took the No. 1 match 6-0, 6-0. Four other members of the team lost just one game in their matches. Spirrison in the No. 3, Morris in the No. 5 and
Elijah Schilthuis in the No. 4 each won 6-1, 6-0 while Hackney took the No. 2 match 6-0, 6-1. Jen finished off the win with a 6-4, 6-2 win in the No. 6 match.
Trine will continue their season on Saturday, September 7 when they travel to Franklin, Ind. for a pair of matches. The first comes against their hosts from Franklin College at 10 a.m. and the second is against Webster University at 1:30 p.m.
