NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Trine University women's tennis team opened the season with a lopsided 7-0 victory over their hosts from Manchester University.

The Thunder took all three doubles matches, to earn the first point of the match. Elina Locane and Alexis Maloney took the No. 1 match by the score of 6-3 in the closest of the doubles matches. The No. 2 team of Emma Beehler and Emilee Bassett and the No. 3 team of Haley Straub and Lizzie Welker each one 6-1.

Trine went on to sweep the singles portion of the contest to finish of the victory. Locane at No. 1, Welker at No. 5 and Molly Hess at No. 6 all won in straight games with scores of 6-0, 6-0. Two more matches went just one more game with Bassett winning at No. 3 with scores 6-1, 6-0 and Maloney winning at No. 4 with scores of 6-0, 6-1. Beehler took the final match, at No. 2, with scores of 6-0, 6-2.

The team will continue their season when they travel to Franklin College for a pair of matches on Saturday, September 7. They begin the day against their hosts at 10 a.m. before facing Webster University in a neutral site match at 1:30 p.m.
