ANGOLA, Ind. – Head Coach
Erin Kolar picked up a record-breaking won as the Trine University women's tennis team defeated visiting Anderson (Ind.) University by the score of 4-3.
The win is the 82
nd of Kolar's career with the women's team, becoming the winningest coach in program history.
The Thunder swept the doubles portion of the contest, to earn the first point of the day.
Lizzie Welker and
Haley Straub picked up the most convincing of the wins with a 6-1 score in the No. 3 match.
Emilee Bassett and
Emma Beehler took the No. 2 match by the score of 6-2, for the second quickest win. The closest of the first matches came at No. 1 where
Elina Locane and
Alexis Maloney won 7-5.
Locane with a 6-2, 6-3 result at No. 1 and Beehler with a 6-1, 5-7, 10-5 win at No. 2 built the lead to 3-0 after the first two matches of the singles portion of the day. Welker finished off the win with a tiebreaker victory of her own in the No. 5 match posting scores of 6-3, 4-6, 10-4.
The team improves to 4-0 following the victory. They are set to continue their season when they host Indiana University Kokomo on Tuesday, September 24. That match is set to start at 4:30 p.m.
