Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Green Knights Pull Away from Women's Hockey

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's hockey team played two more close periods with visiting St. Nobert College but feel behind in the third to drop the game 5-0.

The first period was a great showing by the Thunder. On the defensive side of the ice they held the visiting Green Knights, who were receiving votes in the latest USCHO.com national poll, to just 11 shots. In goal Annie Kindseth had another strong start saving everything that reached her.

Offensively the team had the best scoring chance for either team late in the stanza. Emma-Lyn Stephenson forced a turnover in the defensive end and gave the Thunder a two-on-one breakaway chance. Payton Hans joined her on the trip with the pair passing back and forth up the ice. Hans eventually took the shot hitting the near side post and going off the back of the goalie. Somehow the puck stayed on the wrong side of the redline for the home team and the game went to the intermission 0-0.

St. Norbert found the back of the net at the midpoint of the second period to break up the scoreless game. It came on the powerplay the second in a row that Trine was forced to attempt to kill. It was the lone goal of the period with Kindseth finishing with 22 saves to keep the team close.

The Green Knights pulled away in the third, scoring four goals for the final 5-0 score. Kindseth finished the game with 45 saves.

The Thunder fall to 4-4-2 overall and 2-4-2 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play following the loss. They will enjoy an extended break before traveling to the east coast for their next competition. They are scheduled for a pair of games against Stevenson University, with the first set for a 6 p.m. start on Sunday, December 29.
