HOLLAND, Mich – The Trine University Women's Soccer team fell 1-0 to Hope College on Wednesday night's MIAA Semifinal. The Flying Dutch scored a fourth minute goal and limited Trine to five shots on the night. The Thunder fall to 11-5-3 and see their five game winning streak snapped. Hope improves to 12-3-2 and will take on Calvin on Saturday for the MIAA Championship.
Â
Hope's Grace Fowler scored a goal in the fourth minute to give Hope an early 1-0 advantage that proved to be the winning margin. Trine was able to respond with a shot from
Teresa Ashbrook in the 12
th minute but that would be the lone attempt for the Thunder in the period. The Thunder defense kept the visitors within striking distance, as
Sophie Aschemeier showed why she earned first team MIAA honors earlier today, making three saves inside the first ten minutes of action.
Â
Trine retained possession off of a corner kick in the 61
st minute that provided the Thunder with their first scoring opportunity of the night.
Bella Mabry sent a shot bottom center that was stopped by Hope's keeper. Aschemeier made two more saves in the second frame to keep Trine's hopes alive. In the 83
rd minute Trine drew a foul in the box and set up a penalty kick opportunity for Mabry. The Dutch's keeper made a diving save to prevent the goal.
Â
The Thunder conclude their season with an 11-5-3 record. Trine's seniors leave the program with an impressive 45-22-13 overall record and an outstanding 24-5-5 mark on home turf. Their overall record is the best mark in Trine's NCAA Division III history for a graduating class.
