A tightly contested first quarter saw the teams swap the lead four times. Rhonehouse got started early, nailing one of her four triples to break a 2-2 tie.
Erin Sherwood hit another with just over a minute remaining to give the Thunder a lead they would not surrender.
Â
Trine then outscored the guests 26-18 in the second quarter behind a 19-6 run sparked by an onslaught of triples. Rhonehouse got it started with her second of the day,
Sierra Hinds followed with one of her own before
Sydney Horton hit one and
Allison Capouch added a pair. Trine led 37-24 before taking a 40-31 lead to the locker room.
Â
It was more of the same out of halftime as Rhonehouse buried back to back triples to extend the Thunder lead to 13. Capouch added her third of the game and
Katie Tate ended the quarter to give Trine a 13 point advantage heading into the final frame.
Â
Rhonehouse again got Trine started in the fourth quarter, this time inside the paint and Hinds added another three ball as the Thunder looked to be in control. ONU would return the favor from the second quarter with a 19-4 run that included six triples, one that was the rare four-point play. Trine would then hold the Polar Bears scoreless over the last 1:35 and Wager would ice the game with a pair of free throws with 3.3 seconds remaining.
Â
Trine now has a 10-day break before returning to the MTI Center to host Calvin in the MIAA opener on December 4
