ANGOLA, Ind. – The #1 Trine University Men's Basketball team used 64 points in the paint and a blinding 24-31 shooting performance in the second half to defeat the Elmhurst Bluejays 95-67 this afternoon. Trine remains unbeaten at 5-0 while Elmhurst is a level 2-2.
It was a tale of two halves this afternoon, Trine fell behind early before clawing back to a halftime lead and then outscored the Bluejays 55-34 in the second half to leave no doubt.
Drew Moore continued his hot streak with 27 points and
Nate Tucker came off the bench to add 23 more.
Elmhurst scored the first nine points of the game and held the Thunder scoreless for over five minutes to open the game. Trine would break through on a layup from
Cam Smith, the Bluejays would respond with a triple to take a 12-2 lead. Moore then converted an and-one attempt on the ensuing possession and the momentum changed. Trine found their stride and began chipping away at the deficit. Moore gave the Thunder the lead with just under six minutes remaining and Trine would not trail again. Trine led 40-33 at the break.
The second half was all Thunder, Trine began pulling away early but a steal by Smith led to a fastbreak, Moore send home a thunderous one handed tomahawk dunk to blow the game wide open. Trine would then go on a 26-10 run, Trine would miss just three shots over the stretch. Five different players would score for Trine. Moore hit a three in transition,
Emmanuel Megnanglo hammered home an alley-oop from
Fred Garland, while
Jayce Cusack and Tucker each made buckets and the Thunder put the game out of reach. Trine would lead by as many as 32 when
Cade Brenner knocked down his second triple with just under two minutes remaining.
Trine will play their next four on the road, starting with back to back games in the Buckeye State taking on Ohio Wesleyan and Capital on November 30
th and December 1
st.
