ANGOLA, Ind. – Almost 31 years ago to the day, the Trine University Women's Basketball team scored 115 points. Tonight, they did it again, tying the second most points scored in program history while setting a flurry of other all-time top 20 marks in program history. #23 Trine defeated Lake Forest College 115-38. Trine is now 2-0, while the Foresters fall to 0-3.
Sierra Hinds led Trine with 16 points with
Sidney Wagner and
Allison Capouch were close behind with 14 each. Hinds and Capouch led the way with four three pointers each as the Thunder poured in 15 triples. Wagner nearly posted a double-double dishing out 8 assists, Trine assisted on 32 of 42 made field goals. The 32 assists are the most in a single game in program history.
Trine controlled the game from the tip off. After winning the jump ball, Trine scored just 18 seconds later and would lead the rest of the way. Trine opened up a 22-4 lead, a buzzer beater from just inside the half court line by the Foresters cut the Thunder lead to 35-11.
Trine quickly stretched the lead to 43-11 at the start of the second quarter as Trine never allowed the Foresters to attempt a comeback. Wagner posted four first half steals as Trine led by 40 at the break.
The second half was more dominant than the first as Trine allowed just 13 Forester points in the final two quarters, Trine cleared out the bench midway through the third frame but the scoring continued as the Thunder closed on an 11-3 run.
Trine scored the first nine points of the final stanza as they eclipsed the 100 point mark, much to the delight of the Thunder student section. Trine pulled away again to provide the final margin of 77.
