Volleyball Falls to Hope in MIAA Semifinal

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Trine University Women's Volleyball team fell to #2 Hope College Friday night in straight sets, 25-15, 25-8, and 25-15. Catherine Dobies led the Thunder with 10 kills while Anna Zellers added 11 assists and Julia Maggio had 10 digs. Trine finishes their season 22-6 while Hope will take on Calvin in the MIAA Championship Game tomorrow afternoon.

Trine was able to start fast in set one as Zellers aced the first service of the night, Dobies added a trio of kills and Cassidy Victor added two more as Trine claimed a 9-7 lead early. From there Hope would use an 11-1 run to claim a commanding 18-10 lead and cruise to a set one win.

Hope continued the momentum in set two taking a 10-1 lead early and never looking back en route to a 25-8 victory.

Trine kept things interesting early in the third set, kills from Madison Dominick, Victor, and Francesca Queary pulled the Thunder within 2 at 11-9. Two more kills from Dominick trimmed the hosts lead to 19-15. The Dutch pulled away from there taking the set 25-15 and the match 3-0.

Trine's 22 wins this season are the most since 2014 and is just the second time the program has eclipsed the 20-win mark since joining NCAA Division III in 2004. Trine's seniors leave the program with a 62-48 record over their four seasons, that is the most wins by a graduating class since the class of 2016.
