NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Three Thunder soccer players tallied a goal as Trine defeated St. Mary's 3-0 Saturday afternoon at the Wiedner Purcell Athletic Fields.
Teresa Ashbrook nailed a penalty kick in the 13
th minute and
Abigail Marks and
Samantha Sanderlin found the back of the net in the second half. With the win Trine improves to 9-4-3 (4-2-1 MIAA) and St. Mary's falls to 7-7-1 (2-4-1 MIAA).

Ashbrook set the tone early, rattling off two shots in the first seven minutes. The Thunder drew a foul in the box that set up a penalty kick. Ashbrook sent the goal home and Trine had a 1-0 lead. A defensive slug fest ensued,
Francesca Fronczak got a shot off in the 18
th minute that was saved, but it would be the final shot of the first half from either squad.

Trine again set the tone early in half two as
Bella Mabry found
Abigail Marks in the 48
th minute for another Thunder goal. The Trine offense proved to be more potent in the second half as they tallied five shots and three on goal.
Samantha Sanderlin iced the game in the 70
th minute with her second goal in three games to give Trine a 3-0 lead.

Trine limited St. Mary's to just six shots and
Sophie Aschemeier stopped all four that were on target as she extended her program record 24 career shutouts. Trine held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Trine closes out the regular season on Wednesday night when they travel to Olivet for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
