Thunder Secure First Dual Match Victory

ALMA, Mich. – The Trine University women's wrestling team secured the program's first ever dual match victory by defeating Alma College 29-20. Riley Morrison led the way for the team, pinning her opponent in the win and then picking up another pin in the team's other dual of the night.

The Thunder began with the historic victory. Morrison, who competed tonight while celebrating her birthday, picked up the first points of the day for the team with a pin at the 2:04 mark of the first period, earning the team five points toward the dual. Madison Small added another convincing victory at 136 defeating her opponent in a tech fall by the score of 10-0 and adding four more points.

The final contested match was another pin for Trine, this time from Hailey Budney at the 1:30 mark of the second period. After the forfeits were tallied for both teams, Trine took their first team victory 29-20.

In the second match of the day, Trine faced off with nationally-ranked Northern Michigan University and came up short 34-10. Morrison picked up her second pin of the day at the 2:23 mark of the first to earn the only contested points of the match for the Thunder.

Trine will return to the mats again on Sunday, November 12 when they travel to the Adrian Open. The event is hosted by Adrian College.
