Box Score LAKE FOREST, Ill. – After taking an early lead, the Trine University men's hockey team needed most of an overtime period to secure the victory, defeating Lake Forest College by the score of 3-2.
The Thunder posted a pair of goals in the first ten minutes of the contest to take an early lead. The first was scored by Tyler Blanchard with assists by Drew Welsch and Tim Organ. The second came five minutes later and was an unassisted tally by Evan Carroll.
The Foresters took advantage of a Trine penalty in the final minutes of the period to cut the deficit to 2-1 as the teams headed to the first intermission.
Neither team scored in the second, but Lake Forest knotted the game in the opening portion of the third. After 18 more minutes of scoreless hockey the game headed to overtime tied at two.
In the final seconds of play, Trine secured the victory. Josh Wright played hero with Michael DiPietra and Sam Antenucci adding assists.
Kyle Kozma played in net for the Thunder for the second night in a row. He recorded 19 saves including three in overtime to secure the win.
The Thunder improve to 7-1-0 overall and 3-1-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. They will head to Canton, N.Y. for some non-conference action next week. The first of their games in the North Country Tournament is scheduled against SUNY Canton on Saturday, November 25. That game is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
