HOLLAND, Mich. – The Trine University women's volleyball team fell at the hands of the fourth-ranked team in NCAA DIII Hope College on Tuesday night, 3-0.

The Thunder receive their first conference loss and are 12-11 (2-1 MIAA) through 23 games. Hope improves to 15-1 and are a perfect 4-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) action with 11 wins in a row.

The Fighting Dutch were in full control of set number one, as they notched 17 kills on their way to a 25-13 win. Bethany Ulring [Dayton, Ohio / Bellbrook] made the start and served up the first three points of the match, but things began to unravel for the Thunder from there. Hope finished the set with five consecutive points to close the frame.

Set number two was a fairly even affair, with the Fighting Dutch pulling out a close one 26-24. Hope held a four-point lead at one point as the largest lead for either team in the second. Olivia Jolliffe [Warren, Mich. / Cousino] and Francesca Queary [Midland, Mich. / H.H. Dow] led the team in kills with six of the 11 for the set.

Trine shot themselves in the foot with 10 errors and only six kills in the match-deciding set as the Fighting Dutch went on to win in three, 25-18. Jocelynn Nicholls [Montgomery, Mich. / Camden-Frontier] recorded two kills in the first five points. Jacqueline Baughman [Lake Orion, Mich. / Lutheran Northwest] fired a service ace to give the Thunder a 9-6 lead, however a 5-0 run gave Hope the immediate lead and forced a timeout. Nine straight from Hope was insurmountable to overcome for Trine.

Chloe Behm [Albion, Ind. / Central Noble] led the Thunder in scoring with the help of three block assists. Baughman had 16 assists and Samantha Carlin [Celina, Ohio / Celina] led with six digs.

Trine travels to Olivet for their next match on October 8. That one kicks off at 6:30 pm.
