Lowney begins his third season as the head coach of the men's golf program in 2026-27.

The 2025-26 season saw the Thunder claimed seven tournament wins, a second place finish in the MIAA and four men earn All-MIAA status. Lowney led the Thunder to a trio of program records. The first came in their first tournament, the team fired an 18 hole round of 275 strokes, tying the record for the best18 hole team round. The Thunder continued to turn in low scores throughout the season and broke the season record for 18- and 36-hole scoring averages. Lowney guided Garrett James to a career year, including a berth in the NCAA Championships. James was one of 10 individuals selected to compete at the NCAA Championships and placed 89th. James was the Thunder's first representative at the National Championships since 2021. James tied the program record for 18 holes on October 4th with a round of 65. 

In his first year the Thunder claimed seven tournament victories, a second place finish in the MIAA and four spots on the All-MIAA squad. The Thunder opened the 2024-25 campaign with three consecutive tournament wins, they added a fourth at the Region V preview. Trine reclaimed the Brit-Thunder Cup and added a clean sweep of the top five spots at the A.C. Eddy Classic. Jack Besner, Garrett James, and Carter Schnipke earned first team All-MIAA status and Jake Bilby was named to the second team. Schnipke's success continued in the classroom as he and Colin Crumrine were named GCAA All-America Scholars. 

As a student-athlete, Lowney was named as an All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) golfer in all four seasons played for the Thunder and helped lead the team to two conference titles (2019-20 and 2020-21).

Lowney was the recipient of the MIAA Sportsmanship Award in 2023, a prestigious honor given to one senior student-athlete in the conference each year.

He holds the fourth-best scoring average in his Trine career and has played in the second-most rounds at 61.

Lowney used his fifth year to play at Oakland University in 2023-24 and was inducted into the Michigan Catholic High School League (CHSL) Hall of Fame in 2024.
