Ed Bentley joined the Trine basketball program in the spring of 2023. Coach Bentley is a United States Army and Marine Corps Veteran. In addition, Coach Bentley played basketball at Bridgewater College under Head Coach Bill Leatherman. Upon retirement from the Marine Corps, Coach Bentley began his teaching and coaching career, both at the collegiate level and high school level. Coach Bentley has a combined 20 years of coaching experience to date.
Coach Bentley returned to Trine University in the spring of 2023 following 11 years serving as a head coach at Angola High School, Westview High School, and Eastside High School. Coach Bentley served as a Special Education teacher for 12 years at the high school level. Coach Bentley served as the Head Boys’ Basketball Coach for Eastside High School, attaining a two-year record of 34-16. In 2021-2022 Eastside set a school record for most wins (25), best start (14-0), played in the NECC Tournament Championship game, and played in the Sectional Championship game as well. In addition, Eastside earned the NECC Regular Season Championship with an undefeated conference record of 11-0. Prior to Eastside, Coach Bentley served as Head Coach at Westview High School, compiling a 16-7 record while winning the 2020-2021 NECC regular season conference championship with a 10-1 conference regular season record. Preceding Westview, Coach Bentley served as Angola High School’s Head Basketball Coach. Coach Bentley coached Angola to 120 wins, 3 Class 3A Sectional Championships, 2 NECC regular season titles, 2 NECC Tournament Championships, and the Hornets were ranked in the state top five for defense in five different seasons. Coach Bentley compiled a 170-90 overall record in 11 years.
Prior to serving as Angola High School’s Head Coach, Coach Bentley served as an assistant coach at Tri-State University/Trine University for 6 seasons.
Coach Bentley lives in Hudson, Indiana with his wife Donna, also a retired United States Marine, and has two sons, Cole and Carson.
