Assistant Vice President for Athletics Matt Land announced that Brennon Wachter as the next head coach for the Trine University ACHA D2 Men's Hockey Team in August of 2025.

“Wachter brings a strong level of experience in ACHA D2 that I expect to serve Thunder hockey well,” said Land, “I am excited for the future of our club hockey program.”

Wachter comes to Trine having most recently served as the head coach of Adrian College’s ACHA D2 men’s program. While there he led the team to a 58-18-4 record and three straight regional tournament appearances. He also served as an assistant to the ACHA D1 program which made three straight trips to the National Championship game, winning in 2024.

Before his stint at Adrian he took over a struggling program at Northern Michigan University, more than doubling his roster size from his first to second season. His final season saw the team make a conference playoff berth, after going winless in his first year at the helm.

“I want to thank Coach Land and Dr. Brooks for the opportunity to join the athletic family at Trine,” said Wachter, “I’m excited to bring my experiences to the Thunder ACHA program and to help build upon the past success of the team.”
