ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's tennis team had an early lead but ultimately fell to visiting Kalamazoo College by the score of 6-1.
The Thunder took two of three doubles matches to secure the first point of the day and a 1-0 lead. Sammy Yin and Andrew Spirrison won the top match 6-3 with Landon Bassett and Asher Monson taking the No. 3 match 6-2.
The Hornets stormed back in the singles portion of the day, winning all six for the 6-1 victory. Twice Trine was close to forcing super tiebreakers. The first time came from Leyton Byler in the No. 4 match where he fell 0-6, 5-7. Monson followed up in the No. 6 match with a 2-6, 5-7 loss.
The Thunder fall to 12-6 overall and 2-3 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play. They will look to bounce back during their final home dual of the season when they host Alma College. That match is set to start at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 19.
