MADISON, Wis. - With a team total of 263 points, the Trine University figure skating team finished second at the 2026 Skate On Wisconsin Competition. The finish marks the end of the regular season and secures the team's spot in the 2026 National Intercollegiate Final held in Salt Lake City, Utah next month.
Enya Lunburg was the first competitor for Trine on Friday, finishing third and earning nine team points in the Juvenile Short Program event despite a fall on her double lutz. Kinsey Jo Mann won the first gold medal of the weekend with her Novice Short Program set to "Hallelujah."Â Her performance earned ten team points for Trine. Aaliyah Devins was able to earn fifth place in Junior Short Program Group A, while Jillian Duke earned fourth place with a strong skate in Junior Short Program Group B.
Wrapping up the first day of competition, Trine competed in all three team maneuver events. After leaving points on the table in the short program events, Trine had some ground to make up in the team maneuver events. The Thunder's low team comprised of Alex Davidson, Reilly Johnson, and Katie Zwilgmeyer had a strong showing in a deep field of 21 teams, taking second place and earning 11 team points.
In the Intermediate Team event, Trine's team composed of Emma Metzfield, Maris Kakasenko, Caroline Orr, Mann and Lunburg earned second place with a great showing, earning another 10 points for the Thunder. The medal streak continued with Trine's high team maneuvers earning third place. Together, Jake Smith, AnnaLee Barton, Savannah Chumbley, Lainie Kuckahn and Devins earned eight team points for the team.
Trine kicked off day two of the competition with Sage Scherzer, competing her Pre-Preliminary Free Skate. Scherzer was able to secure fourth place and six team points in a strong group of skaters. Next up for Trine was the Juvenile Solo Free Dance Event where Johnson earned second place and 10 team points in Group A with, while Madeline Josey also earned second place and 10 team points in Group B.
Trine's trio of Preliminary Free Skates earned a combined 30 points with Alexandra Davidson taking first place in Group A, Mayte Velarde earning fourth place in Group B, and Zwilgmeyer earning second place in Group C. Next up for Trine was Duke, earning 10 team points and second place with her powerful and jam packed Junior Championship Free Skate. Duke also earned an additional two bonus points due to the difficulty of the division.
Orr performed her elegant Westminster Waltz in Gold Solo Pattern Dance Group A with a strong showing, earning second place and an additional 10 team points. Kuckkahn went on to execute a perfect Westminster Waltz and was rewarded for it, earning first place in Gold Solo Pattern Dance Group B. Kuckkahn had a quick turn around for her next event, international solo pattern dance. Kuckkahn performed a strong and intense Tango Romantica pattern dance and earned first place in the division, earning 14 points after a two point bonus for the division.
Wrapping up day two, Rhiley Paskoff, Lunburg, and Metzfield were all slated to compete in the Intermediate Free Skate events. Lunburg delivered a strong and alluring performance in Group A, earning second place. Paskoff had a wonderful skate, also earning second place and 10 team points in Group B. Lastly, Metzfield earned fourth place in Group C despite a stumble on a double salchow.
On the final day of competition, Trine left points on the table in the Pre-Bronze solo pattern dance event, only earning seven points despite having two skaters in the event. Kakasenko got things back on track with her third place finish in the Novice Free Skate event, earning eight team points.
In the Junior Free Skate event, Trine's duo of Barton and Chumbley both had strong skates, earning second and fifth respectively. Together, they earned 19 points for Trine. Lunburg was up next for Trine in the Preliminary Pattern Dance event. Her Dutch Waltz earned first place, and an additional 10 team points.
Trine ended the final day of competition with the Juvenile Free Skate events. Starting in Group A was Orr, delivering a strong performance and earning second place. Savannah Press executed a wonderful program in Group B, earning a unanimous first place finish. Allison Korpi rounded out the competition with a third place finish in Group C despite an error on her axel jump. Together, they earned a combined 30 points to round out the competition.
Overall, Trine finished the competition in second place with a total of 263 team points and finished second in the Midwest Conference. The team is back to work preparing for the 2026 National Intercollegiate Final held in Salt Lake City, Utah from Friday, April 10 through Sunday, April 12.
