Cedarville Outlasts Men's Tennis

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Trine University men's tennis team dropped their first dual match of the season to Cedarville University, a NCAA Division II program from Cedarville, Ohio. The match ended 4-2 in favor of the Yellow Jackets.

The Thunder just missed out on the doubles point in the contest, winning one match and taking the other to a tiebreaker. Sammy Yin and Andrew Spirrison took the No. 1 match by the score of 6-4. Asher Monson and Leyton Byler forced a tiebreaker at No. 3 but fell 7-6 (7-5).

Trine won a pair of singles matches to earn their points in the match. Spirrison came from behind to finish the day as the only undefeated player for the team. He won the No. 3 match 2-6, 6-1, 14-12. Drew Hackney won in the top match, also in a super tiebreaker, with scores of 6-3, 5-7, 12-10.

The Thunder finish the day 6-1. They will face Concordia University Wisconsin tomorrow, Tuesday, March 3 for their next contest. That dual is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
