Barnett Is National Runner-Up in Long Jump at NCAA Nationals

BOSTON, MASS.  --  For the third straight year, Trine University men's indoor track & field student-athlete Jeffery Barnett (Fremont, Ohio/Fremont Ross) has finished as runner-up in the long jump with his effort this afternoon at the 2019 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet in Boston, Mass.

Barnett came into the national meet having posted the third best distance in the NCAA in the event at 24' 1.75".  Today, Barnett recorded a leap of 23' 11.75" in what turned out to be his final qualifying attempt, finishing a quarter of an inch ahead of his nearest competitor, to place second overall.

Barnett will cap his indoor track career as a three-time national runner-up in the long jump and a three-time All-American.  

Barnett was the lone men's competitor for Trine in this year's nationals and the team will now transition to the outdoor season which will begin with the two-day Emory (Ga.) University Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Mar. 22-23 in Atlanta, Ga.
