ALLENDALE, Mich.-- The performance of Trine's throwers highlighted the performance of the Thunder men's track and field team on the opening day of Grand Valley State University's Al Owens Classic.
Jessie Dowell (Remington, Ind. / Tri Junior-Senior) led all Trine performers with a fourth-place finish in the javelin throw. The sophomore notched a throw of 169 feet, 3 inches to narrowly set a new pesonal-best. Dowell finished second among NCAA Division III performers in the meet.
The Thunder took home the top three Division III performances in the hammer throw. Sam Gilly (St. Joseph, Ill./ St. Joseph-Ogden), Nick Gerber (Goshen, Ind. / Goshen) and Mitch Martin (Monroe, Mich. / Monroe) paced the performance. Gerber set a new personal-record by more than 11 feet with a toss of 151 feet, 10 inches.
Trine concludes its performance in the Al Owens Classic tomorrow.
