ALMA, MICH.-- The Trine men's track and field team placed fifth in the MIAA Jamboree, held Saturday at Bahlke Field.
The Thunder got first-place finishes from Dakota Bagwell (Kokomo, Ind./Western) in the Hammer Throw, Lincoln Frey (Pettisville, Ohio/Pettisville) in the Pole Vault and the 4 x 400 Relay Team. Trine also got two second-place and two third-place finishes. These performances helped pace TU to 472.50 points overall. The MIAA Jamboree was hosted by Alma College. Hope College took first with 838.50 points.
Bagwell threw a distance of 47.83 meters to take home first in the Hammer Throw. Teammate Andrew Bunting (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) placed just behind, finishing second with a throw of 46.46 meters. Bunting added a fourth-place finish in the Discus.
Frey vaulted 15'1" to win the Pole Vault. John Daniel placed fifth for the Thunder.
The 4 x 400 Meter Relay team was made up of Luke Fimreite (McCordsville, Ind./Mount Vernon), Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton-Kellogg), Jacob Leopold (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf) and Nate Smoker. The team combined to run a time of 3:21.04.
Each member of the Relay Team was successful in other events. Bourdo placed second in the 200 Meter Dash and added a third-place finish in the 100 Meter Dash. Fimreite placed third in the 400 Meter Dash. Smoker finished fifth in the 200 Meter Dash, while Leopold added a seventh-place finish in the 400 Meter Dash.
Brodie Bender notched a pair of top-10 finishes in hurdle events, coming in sixth in the 400 and eighth in the 110 Meter.
For the second-consecutive week, Adam Schaaf (Greentown, Ind./Eastern) set a new personal-record in an event. This week, Schaaf ran a time of 15:48 in the 5K for his new personal-best time.
Trine will compete in Al Owens Invitational, which will be held Apr. 18-19 at Grand Valley State University.
