The High Voltage Dance Team are among the most active and visible groups on campus, including dancing on the sidelines, performing halftime of football and basketball games, making public appearances at community and regional events.
The High Voltage Dance Team consists of young women who enjoy promoting school spirit, creating enthusiasm and entertaining fans at Thunder athletic events. Whether the ladies are performing short band dances on the sidelines with the band or halftime performances that range from jazz, hip-hop and contemporary routines the ladies are sure to entertain.
Incoming freshman are eligible to earn the Trine University Dance Scholarship! Freshmen who make the squad are eligible to earn a $1000 scholarship for each year that they remain on the Dance team.
Want to dance for Trine? The High Voltage Dance Team holds tryouts each spring for the upcoming year. Tryouts are a one day process that consist of an across the floor combination followed by a short jazz and hip-hop routine. Anyone interested in trying out should contact head coach Shea Sims.
After a two years pause from competing, High Voltage members are excited to bring competitive dance back to their program. The team will be competing for the first time in program history at the NDA College Nationals in April.
The ladies began their season with a home technique camp where the team worked on technical skills and learned routines for their season. The ladies also participated in several team bonding activities with one another before their big move to campus.
The team looks forward to volunteering in the community as well as supporting another winning Thunder football season at all home games. As fall comes to a close, the dancers will be ever present at winter sports including men's basketball where the team performs at all halftimes. The women are filled with new energy, a passion to dance and are looking forward to supporting Thunder athletics.
High Voltage Dance Team holds tryouts each year in late April. A date has not been decided on at this time. Each incoming freshman, transfer student, and any returning member must tryout each year in order to be considered a member of the dance team. Video submissions are available for those who can not be present for actual tryouts.
Head coach Shea Sims came to the dance floor in 2012.
Sims is entering her eighth season with the High Voltage Dance Team. After three Can-Am National titles with H.V.D.T Sims is excited for their next journey with NDA.
In her eight seasons at Trine Sims has seen three National titles, two in jazz and one in hip hop. Sims credits the program’s success to creating a family atmosphere and pushing strength in technique and talent.
Sims was a member of the NBA’s Indiana Pacers for three seasons while earning at Masters in Public Relations at Ball State University. Prior to dancing for professional basketball, Coach Sims was a Division I cheerleader and captain for Bowling Green State University where she earned a degree in Journalism Broadcasting. She has coached and choreographed nationally recognized teams for more than twenty years. Coach Sims was also a part of Universal Cheerleaders Association during her collegiate career.
Coach Sims resides in Fort Wayne with her husband Ryan and their son.
